A Woman Who Serves

The word doula comes from an Ancient Greek word meaning "woman who serves." After more than fifteen years serving clients, I still believe that is the simplest and most accurate description of my work.

Birth Doula Services Birth is deeply personal. Every family arrives carrying a unique story, different experiences, different hopes, and different fears. Some clients are approaching birth with excitement and confidence. Others are carrying previous birth trauma, pregnancy loss, infertility, medical trauma, anxiety, or uncertainty about what lies ahead. Birth is not only a physiological experience. It is also an emotional and psychological one. How supported, informed, respected, and safe a person feels during labor can shape the way they remember their birth long after it is over. My background in psychology, combined with more than fifteen years of experience supporting families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and loss, allows me to approach birth with an understanding that emotional safety matters just as much as physical support. My goal is to create an environment where you feel heard, respected, informed, and empowered to participate actively in decisions regarding your care. What My Support Looks Like COMPLIMENTARY CONSULTATION All potential clients are welcome to inquire about service and book a Complimentary interview, where we will get to know one another. I do take a limited amount of clients to ensure quality care, so please inquire as soon as possible. If I am unavailable, I will refer you to another doula whom I believe will be a good fit for you.
DURING PREGNANCY
Before your baby arrives, we will spend time forming a bond as we move into birth preparation together. My Doula Package consists of (3) Prenatal Visits where we will discuss your goals, preferences, concerns, formulate a custom birth plan, go over comfort measures, and talk through the many decisions that can arise during labor. If you have a Partner who wants to be involved, I would love to teach them how they can best support you through this process. My goal is to work alongside your Partner so you remember how THEY supported you best, *through* me. I want my clients to look back and cherish intimate moments created by the space I hold and the knowledge I bring with my experience. I allow my clients to tailor their package to their needs. If you'd like to use one of your three prenatal visits for me to attend a pregnancy appointment with you and your care provider, I'm happy to do that. Otherwise, you will have the option to build what type of support you want in your own custom package. From the moment you sign our contract, I consider myself on-call for you. You'll have access to ongoing support throughout your pregnancy whenever questions come up. DURING LABOR When labor begins, my focus shifts entirely to supporting you and your family. I provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout labor and birth. This may include comfort measures, position changes, labor support techniques, partner support, evidence-based information, emotional reassurance, and helping you process options presented by your care team. I do not provide medical care or make decisions on your behalf. Instead, I help ensure you understand your options so that you can make informed decisions that align with your values and goals. Birth unfolds on its own timeline. Some babies arrive quickly. Others take their time. There are no additional labor support fees based on the length of your labor. Once I join you in labor, my commitment is to supporting you through the birth of your baby—not watching the clock. IMMEDIATE POSTPARTUM Following your baby's arrival, I remain with your family during the immediate postpartum period as you begin settling in with your newest addition. While most clients no longer need additional support beyond the first two to three hours postpartum, I make sure each client is comfortable and settled in with their baby before returning home. We will also reconnect postpartum to process your birth experience, answer questions, and ensure you feel supported as you transition into this next chapter of parenthood.
POSTPARTUM VISIT All Birth Doula clients receive an in-home postpartum visit following the birth of their baby. This visit is intentionally flexible because no two families have the same needs. Some mothers need an opportunity to rest while I help care for their newborn-- after I've made sure mom is fed and taken care of as well. Others prefer to spend that time bonding with their baby while I assist with household tasks, meal preparation, organization, or other practical needs around the home. For many families, this visit also provides an opportunity to process their birth experience, ask questions, and talk through the emotions, memories, and transitions that often accompany the postpartum period. My goal is to meet you where you are and provide support in whatever way will be most beneficial to you and your family during this season of adjustment. My Philosophy Over the years, I have supported families welcoming their first child and families welcoming their twelfth. I have attended hospital births, birth center births, home births, inductions, unmedicated births, epidural births, VBACs, and cesarean births. No two births are ever the same. What I have learned is that people rarely remember every detail of their labor. They remember how they were treated. They remember whether they felt heard. They remember whether they felt respected. They remember whether they felt safe. They remember whether someone stayed. My commitment is simple: To provide compassionate, individualized support. To help you feel informed and confident in your decisions. And to ensure that no matter how your birth unfolds, you never have to navigate it alone.
"I can't imagine my birth experiences without Laney by my side. She supported me through three births each at different times in my life and met me where I was at with unwavering compassion, wisdom, and genuine care during each birth. She honored my choices and advocated for what was best for me, no matter how my births unfolded. Her heart for this work shines through in every pregnancy I’ve had with her and she creates a space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered. Laney is a steady, strong advocate who pours her whole heart and soul into every family she serves."

"As a midwife in DFW, I can vouch for Laney 100%. I have attended many many births with Laney. The support she provides for birthing families is top notch. With Laney you will have an amazing birth experience."
— Lena, Birth Doula Client
"The most empowering day of my entire life was when my daughter was born. Laney at The Birthing Tree was such a huge part of that special day. Laney showed me what true support was, in so many ways. She is the reason I became a doula myself after my vbac. Thank you, Laney. We love you very much!"
